Arsenal’s game kicked off less than an hour after Premier League title rivals Manchester City had thrashed Liverpool 4-1.
City’s win had reduced Arsenal’s lead to just five points. But the day would end as it had started – with the Gunners eight points clear having played one game more than City.
Jesus, starting a Premier League game for the first time since November after recently recovering from a knee injury, gave Arsenal the lead 10 minutes before half-time.
He successfully converted a penalty kick that he had won himself when he was fouled by Luke Ayling.
The Brazilian looked nervous as a VAR review forced him to wait before the spot-kick could be taken.
Once the wait was over, Jesus did not appear to strike the ball confidently but his low central shot just evaded goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
Arsenal’s lead had come slightly against the run of play but it appeared to jolt Mikel Arteta’s team into action.
It was 2-0 less than two minutes into the second half when White scored via the crossbar from close range following a fine assist by Gabriel Martinelli.

The game was effectively over in the 55th minute after Jesus had netted his second goal of this game. It was set up by Leandro Trossard, who got the better of Robin Koch before rolling a pass into the path of Jesus on the edge of the six-yard box.
A Jesus hat-trick was looking like a distinct possibility before Arteta substituted his star striker off on the hour-mark.
Leeds pulled a goal back 14 minutes from the end when Kristensen found the net from long range via a significant deflection off Oleksandr Zinchenko.
But Xhaka settled any nerves with a goal in the 84th minute after being set up by Martin Odegaard.
