Arsenal fans furious as Southgate picks Maguire over White in England squad

Gareth Southgate announced his England squad for their upcoming Nations League games, and the Three Lions boss has snubbed Arsenal star Ben White in favour of Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.

Southgate’s men take on Italy and Germany next week in the final two games before the World Cup. Every English player in the country was hoping for a call-up, but some of the England boss’ decisions have confused fans.

In his England squad for the games next week, Southgate has called up 12 defenders in total.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Chilwell, Conor Coady, Eric Dier, Marc Guehi, Reece James, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Fikayo Tomori, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker have all made the squad, but there’s no place for White, who has been brilliant this season.

The Arsenal number four has only played at right-back this term, and he has impressed everybody. Even though it’s not his natural position, he has fared incredibly well, so much so that Takehiro Tomiyasu can’t get into the side.

Since the start of the season, White has arguably been a lot better than Alexander-Arnold, Coady, Guehi and Stones, but the one player he has definitely been head and shoulders above is Maguire.

The Manchester United star has played three times this season and the Red Devils have lost every one of those games. Even though he’s their club captain, he can’t get into the side at the moment, which tells you all you need to know.

Southgate, however, has completely ignored all of that and has picked him over White, and Arsenal supporters are not happy.
