Arkane Studios’ Deathloop Is A PS5 Console Exclusive

Deathloop #Deathloop

We haven’t heard much about Arkane Studio’s Deathloop since its announcement at E3 2019, but a new trailer during Sony’s PlayStation 5 reveal event confirms the first-person shooter is headed to next-gen consoles. The new trailer gives a sense of the story, in which you play as an assassin locked in a timeloop so they can be hunted down and murdered over and over again. The game is due in Holiday 2020 and will be a PS5 exclusive on consoles at launch, according to the PlayStation Blog.

Deathloop is about “rival assassins locked in a timeloop,” and the trailer gives a better sense of Deathloop’s gameplay than we’ve had in the past. The game looks a lot like another Arkane franchise, Dishonored–as Colt, you’re trying to stay alive on the island of Black Reef while everyone is out to kill you. To kill them first, you’ll wield a number of weapons, like various firearms and blades, while also utilizing special powers that can lift enemies into the air or toss them. There’s also a Blink-like teleport that looks very similar to that ability in the Dishonored games.

Every time you’re killed, you restart the timeloop, and it sounds like your goal is to take down eight assassination targets before midnight, without being killed, in order to break free. Stealth also looks like a big component of gameplay, allowing you to kill enemies silently with suppressed weapons or with up-close lethal takedowns.

It also appears that you’ll spend Deathloop being chased by Juliana Blake, the protector of Black Reef and the assassin hell-bent on preventing you from taking out your targets. The end of the trailer shows players will also get an opportunity to take on Blake’s role in the fighting–as the PS Blog story notes, you’ll have the option to invade other players’ games as Juliana.

In a press release sent out shortly after the Deathloop’s new trailer was shown, Bethesda confirmed that along with Ghostwire: Tokyo, Deathloop will be console exclusives for PS5. In a statement from Bethesda Softworks PR manager Beau Jensen, he stated that both games will “take advantage of the power of the PS5’s next-gen hardware to create exciting and immersive new experiences for gamers.” In addition to the PS5, Deathloop will also release on PC as well.
