Arizona Republican Who Called for New Election Says She Likes Robert E. Lee, Not Traitors

An Arizona Republican who called for a new presidential election in the state and the recall of President Joe Biden’s electors has said she likes two famous Confederate generals but doesn’t like “traitors” to the U.S.
State Senator Wendy Rogers took to Twitter on Friday and was apparently responding to the decision by the Cleveland Indians baseball team to change their name to the Cleveland Guardians.
Rogers demanded on June 15 that the 2020 presidential election in Arizona be re-run. She based this on the election audit in the state’s Maricopa County, which has been criticized for pursuing conspiracy theories such as searching for bamboo fibers in ballots based on the idea that some 40,000 ballots were shipped in from Asia.
On Friday, Rogers sent a short tweet that appeared to reference a variety of issues, including so-called “cancel culture” and the removal of statues.
“I like Indians and I like Redskins,” Rogers wrote.
“I like Aunt Jemima and I like Uncle Ben. I like Robert E Lee and I like Stonewall Jackson. I don’t like traitors who hate America. Stand up for our culture!”
Some social media users quickly noted an apparent contradiction in Rogers’ statement. Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson were both Confederate generals who famously led troops against the U.S. government during the Civil War.
Though Jackson did not live to see the end of the war, Lee lived for five years after the Confederates’ defeat. However, he did not receive a full pardon and the restoration of his citizenship until 1975 – 105 years after the general had died.
Bronze statues of Lee and Jackson were taken down in Charlottesville, Virginia on July 10. The statues had been erected in the 1920s.
On July 15, Rogers called for a fresh election in Arizona and cited a statement from Doug Logan, founder of Cyber Ninjas, the firm conducting the audit in Maricopa County. The company has no previous experience conducting election audits.
“I have heard enough. With the tens of thousands of ballots mailed without being requested, the over ten thousand people who voted after registering after November 3rd, the failure of Maricopa to turn over the 40% machines, the passwords that Dominion still refuses [..] to turn over, & tens of thousands of unauthorized queries demonstrating how insecure the election was,” Rogers wrote.

“I call for the Biden electors to be recalled to Arizona & a new election must be conducted. Arizona’s electors must not be awarded fraudulently & we need to get this right,” she said.
Two previous audits in Maricopa County found no evidence of fraud.
