Barcelona coach Quique Setien has defended Antoine Griezmann after the French forward’s disappointing display against Mallorca on Saturday.
The 29-year-old worked hard to win the ball back, but offered little in attack in the 4-0 win and was substituted with just over half an hour left as Luis Suarez was brought on.
That change saw February signing Martin Braithwaite stay on instead and Griezmann was pictured with a stern look on his face after he was taken off.
“Griezmann is unquestionable,” Setien said in a press conference on Monday. “He has played since I have been here.
“There are more players now and we have to share out the minutes.
“Griezmann is a great footballer and he will continue to have protagonism because he is an important player for this club.”
And he added: “I have already said that here, the only ones who have hierarchy for a starting spot are the ones who have earned it with their work over many years with the team.
“What I need is to control and to study well because my interest is for everyone to be fresh when they go out on the pitch.”
