Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox, the founders of one of the oldest and most iconic YouTube channels Smosh, recently made an announcement that the pair have reunited and bought their old channel back. The exciting news comes with the additional announcement of new YouTube content coming soon.

Since the very beginning of YouTube, back in the days of annotations, ratings with stars, and video replies, there was always Smosh. It’s one of the original success stories on the platform that laid the groundwork for YouTube to become the haven for wildly popular video creators like MrBeast that it is today. Like all great things, the partnership between Ian and Anthony did eventually come to an end, but a recent announcement says they’re back.

The most recent video on the Smosh channel is a celebratory announcement from Ian and Anthony about the channel being bought back. It was initially acquired by Defy Media in 2011 before being picked up by Rhett and Link’s Mythical Entertainment in 2019 after Defy went under. Smosh now once again belongs to the two original names that founded it way back in 2005. It should be fairly cathartic for many longtime fans of the channel to see the pair with so many combined YouTube Creator awards together again, along with the appearance of Ian’s mom who was a regular on the channel back in the day.

The announcement that Smosh is back in the hands of Ian and Anthony also comes with the promise that the channel’s content will return to being comedy sketches made by the duo. The first new videos by the two are supposed to begin being posted to Smosh as early as next week. These will be the first new comedy sketches produced by Ian and Anthony since Padilla left the channel to begin producing his own independent content back in 2017. It’s unknown if they’ll be doing follow-ups to popular old videos like Food Battle or their popular Death Note video from 2012.

The Smosh channel back in the late 2000s and early 2010s was home to some of the biggest original comedy videos on YouTube, and the duo has rightfully earned their place with original YouTube legends like the vlogbrothers and Philip DeFranco. Many who were active on the website at the time fondly remember hit Smosh videos in their various popular series like If [Blank] Were Real and Food Battle. It has been the channel with the most subscribers on YouTube at various times throughout the site’s history and has expanded over the years to be a brand that contains multiple channels on top of just the main one. Ian and Anthony have assured viewers that the content on those other channels like Smosh Gaming and Smosh Pit will remain the same.
