Another Pies injury scare as Brodie Grundy subbed out with neck issue

Collingwood has been dealt a major injury blow, with star ruckman Brodie Grundy suffering a neck injury during his side’s clash with Geelong.

Grundy on Saturday was competing in a marking contest with Cats ruckman Rhys Stanley in the third term before his head was snapped back mid-air and he landed awkwardly on his right forearm.

The dual All-Australian was immediately taken down into the rooms for further assessment.

Soon afterwards, Collingwood confirmed Grundy had been subbed out of the game, with Finlay Macrae replacing him.

It was initially feared Grundy had hurt his AC joint, but the Pies confirmed to Fox Footy at three quarter-time he’d sustained a neck injury.

As play continued in the final quarter at the MCG, Grundy was taken to hospital for precautionary scans on his neck.

Grundy has been one of the Magpies’ most durable players over the past seven years, playing at least 19 games in every season.

He’s played 162 games ever since being drafted with Pick 18 in the 2012 national draft.
