Steve Bruce has been sacked by West Bromwich Albion

Jon Dahl Tomasson may have been Rovers head coach for only 118 days but he is already the Championship’s 12th-longest serving boss following another managerial sacking.

West Brom this morning parted company with Steve Bruce after eight months in charge at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies are in the Championship relegation zone after 13 games, in which they have picked up only 11 points.

They are winless in their last eight after Saturday’s goalless draw with Luton Town which proved to be Bruce’s final game in charge.

He took over at the club in February, following the decision to sack Valerien Ismael, with his first home game in charge coming against Rovers on February 14.

In all, Bruce has managed 32 matches but won only eight, drawing 12 and losing the same number.

Hopes had been high for a promotion push from the Baggies this term, but they have won only one of their Championship matches so far.

A club statement read: “West Bromwich Albion have today parted company with manager Steve Bruce.

“Backroom staff Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence and Alex Bruce have also left The Hawthorns.

“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Steve Bruce and his coaching staff for their efforts since arriving in February.

“Under-21s coach Richard Beale will oversee first-team affairs on an interim basis, assisted by James Morrison and Gary Walsh.

“The process of recruiting a new manager is now under way and an appointment will be confirmed in due course.”

Bruce’s exit follows the departures of Danny Schofield (Huddersfield Town), Chris Wilder (Middlesbrough), Shota Arveladze (Hull City), Michael O’Neill (Stoke City) and Rob Edwards (Watford).

Paul Warne (Rotherham United) and Alex Neil (Sunderland) left their role for other jobs, meaning seven clubs have now changed their managers since the start of the season.
