Anita Hill #AnitaHill
An all-day conference titled “Sex, Power and Speaking Truth: Anita Hill 20 Years Later” will be held on the Hunter campus on October 15. Anita Hill, the woman who accused Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment during his Senate confirmation hearings in 1991, will be the keynote speaker. Hill is now a professor at Brandeis University.
Maureen Dowd, New York Times columnist; Gloria Steinem, author and co-founder of Ms. Magazine; New York Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, and Hunter Provost Vita Rabinowitz will be among more than two dozen distinguished figures who will participate in a series of panel discussions about law, politics, race and gender.
The event concludes with a performance of original works curated by Tony award-winning playwright Eve Ensler under the title “Speaking Truth to Power.”
The conference will consist of two parts. Three daytime panels will be held in the General Assembly Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The performance of “Speaking Truth to Power” will be staged in the Kaye Playhouse from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Hunter is a conference partner and is joined by a long list of co-sponsors, including several CUNY schools, the White House Project, and the Women’s Media Center.
