  • Ange Postecoglou has joked that Tottenham missed out on a ‘good opportunity’ in the transfer market, after Lewis Hamilton’s shock move to Ferrari.

Hamilton’s move, which was revealed on Thursday, has been dubbed the biggest in the sport since the British Formula One star joined Mercedes from McLaren in 2013.

F1 fans joked that Hamilton’s shock move to Ferrari in 2025 is the ‘biggest signing of the transfer window’ and Spurs boss Postecoglou seemed to agree.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, ahead of his side’s trip to Everton on Saturday, Postecoglou said: ‘The only disappointing one for us was that I felt there was a good opportunity for us, but the club didn’t feel it was right and he ended up going elsewhere.

‘He went to Ferrari instead… I got you all going there didn’t I? I felt you needed something after a bit of a flat day yesterday’.

Hamilton will drive for Ferrari from 2025 in a bombshell move, it has been confirmed

However, shortly afterwards, the Tottenham boss offered an actual reflection upon his side’s winter transfer window – where he praised the deals they got over the line.

He said: ‘We had clear objectives. We had a gap at centre-back after letting Davinson Sanchez go and getting Radu in was great.

‘Getting Timo early also excellent. We’ve had injuries with Sonny away, and already he’s made a contribution. If we left it to the last day it takes time to settle. Both have settled well.

‘With outgoings, we got some good loans.. With Alejo it’s great for him to get game time at a good club. Also players like Ashley Phillips and Alfie Devine got good loans’.

It was revealed late on Deadline Day, that Tottenham forward Veliz secured a move to LaLiga side Sevilla on loan for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

Veliz joined Spurs from Rosario Central for £12m in August, arriving as Ange Postecoglou’s second signing after Micky van de Ven.

However, he has struggled for game time in England, making just eight substitute appearances in the Premier League, and failing to start a single match in all competitions.

Mail Sport understand that Hamilton has secured a seat to drive for the Italian firm who have been reportedly offering him a £40million incentive to sign up for the 2025 season

He has now been sent on loan to Sevilla in the hope of getting more minutes under his belt before the end of the season.

Veliz scored his only Tottenham goal in a 4-2 defeat at Brighton in December, but has found himself behind the likes of Son Heung-min and Richarlison in the pecking order.

Meanwhile, Mail Sport understands that seven-time world champion, Hamilton, has secured a seat to drive for the Italian firm who have been reportedly offering him a £40million incentive to sign up for the 2025 season.

After two challenging seasons for Mercedes, who have failed to keep pace with Red Bull, it is believed Ferrari are close to convincing Hamilton he stands a better chance of success with them.
