This week, both players won their respective opening matches—though they took opposite roads to get there.
Top seed Swiatek took down former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez 6-1, 6-1 in the second round of Dubai, while Murray had to save three match points in a dramatic battle with Lorenzo Sonego, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4) in Doha.
Swiatek, who is seeking her second consecutive Dubai trophy, moved into the semifinals after receiving a walkover from Karolina Pliskova (viral illness) and awaits the winner of Madison Keys and Coco Gauff. Murray faces Alexander Zverev in the round of 16 on Wednesday.
