Andrew Johns and Cameron Smith SLAM bunker for allowing Penrith’s controversial try to stand
Penrith #Penrith
The Bunker was again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons as Penrith thrashed Parramatta 28-12 in the NRL Grand Final.
Up 18-0 following a dominant first half, Penrith crossed earlier in the second half as Brian To’o completed his double in controversial circumstances.
As Penrith swiftly moved the ball from right to left, Viliame Kikau’s decoy run ended with him slamming into Mitchell Moses.

The Parramatta halfback complained to referee Ashley Klein he was being impeded by Kikau, but the Bunker upheld the on-field decision and confirmed the try after reviewing the incident.
Much to the surprise of Channel Nine’s commentary team, the video referee ruled that Moses made a ‘defensive decision’ to tackle Kikau.
‘All year that has been a no-try,’ NRL legend Andrew Johns said.

‘He had to run between Mitchell Moses and Isaiah Papali’i. He doesn’t. And Kikau runs to the outside of Moses and all year that has been a no try.
‘The biggest game of the year, we make it [the rule] up and change it.’
Cameron Smith agreed: ‘Where he runs, Kikau, he doesn’t give Mitchell Moses the opportunity to go on the inside and slide,’ he said.
‘This has been ruled against teams all year, it can’t be a try.’
