‘An ordinary Saturday turned into a day of pain and loss’ — Zelenskyy on Russian strike on Chernihiv

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has responded to the abhorrent attack by Russian on Chernihiv city center in the afternoon of Aug. 19 in a video address.

“This is what a neighborhood with a terrorist state looks like, this is what we unite the whole world against,” the head of state wrote.

“A Russian missile hit right in the center of the city, in our Chernihiv.  A square, the polytechnic university, a theater.  An ordinary Saturday, which Russia turned into a day of pain and loss.”

He also noted that the missile attack resulted in deaths and injuries.

“Let’s do even more to unite the world against Russian terror,” President Zelenskyy said.

“Let’s give even more to our state to protect life.  Russia must lose this war for life to win.”

Russian troops attacked the center of the city of Chernihiv in northern Ukraine in the afternoon of Aug. 19, killing six and injuring scores more.

The enemy used a ballistic missile, said Vyacheslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv Oblast Military Administration.
