A nine-month-old girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert Friday afternoon has been located safely with one suspect in custody, Ottawa police say.
Ottawa police Tweeted shortly before 5 p.m. that the child, who was last seen with her mother shortly after noon on Friday, was located safely.
Police thanked the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau for assisting.
A suspect is in custody related to the ongoing investigation, police said.
The Amber Alert was issued shortly after 3 p.m.
Ottawa Const. Amy Gagnon told Global News on Friday afternoon that police are still investigating the circumstances that first led police to the scene, but said the pair had left by the time officers arrived.
The OPS said the pair were last seen on foot at 12:08 p.m. in the area of Lebreton Street North and Booth Street.
The two were last seen leaving from a public place, not a residence, Gagnon added.
The cold Ottawa weather was a concerning factor in the pair’s safety.
“We’re concerned for the safety of both. It’s not midsummer. It is winter. It’s been cold out. Neither one is necessarily dressed for the weather,” Gagnon said Friday.
Gagnon said that, given the proximity to the Chaudière Bridge connecting Ottawa and Gatineau, police were considering the possibility the two crossed into Quebec.
Anyone with other information related to the case is asked to call police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944 or anonymous via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
