Ally McCoist hails ‘likable’ Jack Grealish but jokes he wouldn’t let daughters anywhere near Man City star

Ally McCoist has hailed Jack Grealish as ‘a breath of fresh air’, but still wouldn’t let him near his hypothetical daughters!

The Manchester City star is one of the most popular players in English football due to his cheeky chappy personality and ability to give honest and heartfelt interviews with the media.

His football ability isn’t bad either, with Grealish becoming one of Pep Guardiola’s top stars in their treble-winning side this term.

Five goals and 11 assists have certainly helped City to shine this season, but according to McCoist, it’s his personality that really makes him stand out.

Speaking on The Sports Breakfast, McCoist said: “He’s really likable and I think he probably is the most relatable, I really do.

“Bizarrely, he’s probably been helped this season by the injury to Phil Foden to a degree but he has certainly stepped up to the mark, he’s been different class.

“I think that his gametime might have been a bit more limited if Foden has been 100 per cent fit because of rotation and the way that Pep plays the players in his squad, but I think he’s a breath of fresh air.

“The way he talks to people, the way you see him in the press and more importantly, the way you see him with the fans. He does a lot of stuff with people not as fortunate as himself and I think he really is relatable.

“He’s a breath of fresh air and he’s one of the boys that I really want to see doing well. He’s got a good manner about him.

“I made the comment during the World Cup regarding Jude Bellingham, I have five sons and I was saying that if I had five daughters I’d let Jude Bellingham take them all out – I wouldn’t let Jack Grealish near any of them!”

Asked if he’s changed his mind, McCoist said: “No and put another lock on the pad that I’d keep them in, I’d put another lock on!

“But he’s great. He’s a breath of fresh air and I really enjoy him. He’s a good watch when he plays and he’s a good listen when he talks. He’s good the way that he handles himself off the park with the supporters.”
