Guardiola says Klopp made him ‘better’ ahead of Man City v Liverpool
Liverpool fans were quick to find reasons to explain Alisson’s shocking start against Manchester City – which directly led to the home side going in front at the Etihad.
And pointed out that unlike Ederson, who was fresh for the game, his compatriot on the opposite side of the pitch travelled all the way home to Brazil during the international break.
Jurgen Klopp was furious that Liverpool’s trip to Man City was picked as the early fixture after many of his players faced long journeys to South America. Ahead of the match, he said: “How can you put a game like this on Saturday at 12.30pm?
“Honestly, the people making the decisions, they cannot feel football. It is just not possible. This is the moment the world pays the most to see a football game. And by the way, the players will all come back on the same plane, all the South American players, picking them up from different countries.”
Liverpool’s first half at the Etihad seemed to go some way to justifying Klopp’s point, with the usually assured Allison dropping clanger after clanger leading directly to a goal.
His first mistake saw him pass the ball to Phil Foden, but his tame effort was easily kept out. He was unable to amend his second error, though, with Nathan Ake picking out Erling Haaland to score.

Ederson, meanwhile, pulled out of international duty with a foot injury and didn’t have to fly to Brazil for their defeats by Colombia and Argentina. As a result, he was fresh come Saturday morning and made a string of saves to keep his side in front.
Liverpool fans on social media were quick to point this out, with one fan tweeting: “Pep keeping Ederson at home during the international break was quite smart. He’s rested, while Alisson is jetlagged.”
Another said: “We look well off the pace. Not surprising given the players that were away on internationals. Alisson having a shocker sadly.”
