Alex Telles is now facing Man United axe as loan-to-buy deal mooted – pundit

Telles #Telles

Noel Whelan has suggested Alex Telles could be “shipped out” on a loan-to-buy basis following the arrival of Tyrell Malacia at Man United.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, backed the 22-year-old new boy to become first-choice left-back for the 2022-23 season.

Man United confirmed the arrival of Feyenoord left-back Malacia on Tuesday (5 July) – with the Red Devils paying a reported potential fee of £13.4million for his services.

Telles, 29, made just 26 appearances in the 2021-22 season, scoring one and registering four assists.

The six-time Brazil international, who cost Man United a reported £15.4million in 2020, is out of contract in June 2024.

Whelan insisted Malacia has now gazumped Telles in the pecking order – leaving the former Porto man vulnerable to a potential exit.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Alex Telles hasn’t done it since coming in, has he?

“I’m fully expecting Malacia to start the season – that’s what Ten Hag has brought him in for.

“That’s what happens when you go out and get new players in – they come straight into the side.

“I’m sure not many people will be grumbling if he does because last season there were so many poor performances in these areas and that’s why there is this lack of trust in the existing players.

“In terms of where that leaves Telles – if they can ship him out on loan with a view to a permanent move, that’d probably be best for player and club.”

Man United

Man United will play Europa League football during the 2022-23 season.

Erik ten Hag will take charge of his first Premier League match against Brighton on 7 August.

In other news, Kieran Maguire salutes Man United as £20m-a-year deal struck – “no other club could do this”.
