Alex Scott is in talks to replace Sue Barker as host of A Question Of Sport.

According to reports, the former footballer and Strictly Come Dancing star impressed the show’s bosses after making two previous appearances on the programme.

The news comes just days after it was announced that Sue would be leaving the long-running series after 23 years along with team captains Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell as part of a major shake-up.

‘Alex is being lined up as host, as a direct replacement for Sue,’ an insider claimed.

Piers Morgan supported the news of Alex as the show’s potential new host and called for former footballing ace Micah Richards and ex-cricketer Freddie Flintoff to join as team captains.

The Good Morning Britain presenter shared his thoughts on Twitter, writing: ‘I think @AlexScott would be a great host.

‘She’s smart, warm, knowledgeable, funny. I’d also make @MicahRichards & @flintoff11 the new team captains – for same reason.’

News of Sue, Matt, and Phil’s departure from A Question Of Sport was confirmed by a BBC spokesperson, who said: ‘We would like to thank Sue for her enormous contribution as the show’s longest-reigning host over the last 23 years.

‘And Matt and Phil for their excellent team captaincy over 16 and 12 years respectively.

‘Together they have ensured A Question Of Sport remains a firm favourite with the BBC One audience.’

Addressing her exit, Sue said the BBC would have to force her out of the job as she never would have voluntarily stepped down as host.

‘I love the show so much they would have to remove me, it would have been tough for me to walk away,’ she shared.

‘I absolutely loved my 24 years fronting A Question Of Sport, it’s been my dream job.’

Sue added to the Daily Mail: ‘But I understand the BBC want to take the show in a new direction and I’m sad to say goodbye.’
