Alex Scott Football Focus presenter rumours greeted positively on social media

Alex Scott has received backing on Twitter following reports that she is about to take up hosting duties for one of the BBC’s most popular shows.
According to the Express, the former Arsenal right-back, who played 140 times for the England women’s team during her professional career. is set to be unveiled as the new presenter of Football Focus following Dan Walker’s announcement that he is leaving the programme shown every Saturday lunchtime.
Walker, 44, has presented the show for 12 years and Scott would be the first woman to regularly present the programme since it first aired in 1974.
After rumours of her appointment surfaced, many people took to social media to express their views – with lots welcoming the idea of her becoming Football Focus presenter.
One Twitter user said that they were looking forward to Scott becoming the show’s host, and the former footballer gave her own reaction to this message.

The social media user wrote: “Alex Scott speaks so much sense as a pundit and I love the thought of her boiling p*** towards some of the men still living in the 20th century, who can’t handle the fact a woman is talking about men’s football.”
Another person followed up, saying: “She’s utterly fabulous, isn’t she. Love listening to her analysis. So eloquent. I’m doing a cheeky tag in the hope she sees it @AlexScott.”
Spotting their tweets, Alex took the opportunity to respond as she appeared thrilled by their compliments.
In view of her 293,000 followers, the football pundit replied: “I see you, I see you.”
It comes as speculation has been rife about who will be taking the reins on Football Focus with names such as Alex and former professional footballer Jermaine Jenas being tipped for the role.
According to reports, a source told The Sun: “Alex was deemed the perfect fit for the role. After her stint on Strictly in 2019, her popularity went through the roof.
“Not only is she a great broadcaster, but her knowledge of the game is also outstanding.”
They added: “Alex is going to be a huge asset to the Football Focus team. Everyone is so excited to have her on board.”

Dan, who joined Football Focus in 2009, is one of the show’s longest-serving presenters and his last show will coincide with the end of the current season on Saturday, May 22.
He will continue to present BBC Breakfast and for BBC Sport, including at this summer’s Tokyo Olympics.
Speaking of his time on the show, he said: “It has been an amazing 12 years and I have loved every second of it.
“I am so proud of the job we’ve done, the changes we’ve made and issues we’ve looked at while the football landscape changed immeasurably.
“I’d like to say thank you to the amazing team at Focus who put so much into the show each week and thank you to the audience for tuning in every Saturday.”
Dan also shared the news of his exit on his official Twitter account.
