October 23 – Alex DeBrincat recorded a hat trick to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 6-2 home win over the Calgary Flames on Sunday.

DeBrincat added an assist, Dylan Larkin had a goal and an assist and Lucas Raymond and Justin Holl each had three assists for Detroit, which has won five straight games after a season-opening loss.

Andrew Mangiapane and Yegor Sharangovich provided the goals for Calgary, which lost its second straight game.

The Red Wings opened the scoring just 1:59 into the game on a goal by DeBrincat, who camped himself in front of the Calgary goal, took a pass from Holl behind the net and buried the chance to make it 1-0 Detroit.

The Red Wings then went up 2-0 with 10:16 remaining in the first when a point shot from Ben Chiarot deflected off Joe Veleno and went past Calgary goalie Dan Vladar (24 saves).

Just two minutes into the second period, Detroit added to its lead when Larkin took a cross-ice pass from DeBrincat and fired a shot just underneath the crossbar from the left faceoff circle to make it 3-0 Red Wings.

Calgary got on the board with 7:48 remaining in the second when Mangiapane camped himself in front of Detroit goalie James Reimer (29 saves) and tapped home a rebound into the empty net behind him to make it 3-1.

Detroit went up 4-1 with 6:27 left in the second when DeBrincat took a pass from Larkin and one-timed a shot from the left faceoff circle past Vladar.

Calgary made it 4-2 with 1:26 remaining in the second on a goal by Sharangovich, who fired a shot from the top of the faceoff circles that beat Reimer to the stick side.

Detroit went back up by three goals at 5-2 with 16:53 to go in the game. Jake Walman fired a shot from the point off a faceoff that went past Vladar for his first goal of the season.

DeBrincat then beat Vladar to the stick side on a shot from the left faceoff circle 37 seconds later to give Detroit a 6-2 lead.
