Alberta Clipper to bring in soggy weather for Thursday

Alberta #Alberta

More stereotypical fall weather for Michigan is on the way, with rain showers moving into the state overnight tonight and into tomorrow for both peninsulas. The rain chances are going to stick with us for the next few days, and with them temperatures are expected to drop.

Precip chances for the next few days in the U.P. as we head into the late week, with rain chances tomorrow and Friday.

As we head into tonight, scattered showers that are currently moving through the U.P. are going to move into the rest of the state, and become more numerous. An Alberta Clipper system is heading our way, and it’s going to bring heavier rain by Thursday in a couple of rounds. A line of showers is going to move through the state from west to east throughout the night on Wednesday, reaching the eastern half of the U.P. and west-central Lower Michigan late Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.

This line of showers isn’t going to stick around. By late Thursday morning it will have progressed into southeast Michigan and The Thumb, but our rain chances won’t end there. Numerous scattered showers are going to be around in the Lower Peninsula, while another round of steadier rain makes its way through the U.P. and into Lower Michigan in the afternoon. For folks in southern and southeastern Michigan, scattered showers are going to become more widespread early in the afternoon, so if there are any gaps in the rain, they won’t last for long. Some thunder and lightning can’t be ruled out.

Rainfall totals for this event are going to depend on if you get under a heavier shower or thunderstorm during the day. Amounts of around a quarter to a half an inch are possible in The Mitten by the end of the day tomorrow, but some places could see more with those heavier showers being possible. In the U.P., rainfall amounts will be about the same, with a quarter of an inch or a little over possible.

As we head into Friday, some scattered showers are still possible, particularly in the morning and in the Lower Peninsula. These will taper off pretty quickly, and while there might be a few straggling showers in the afternoon, the day will be mostly dry. By Friday evening, however, rain chances ramp up again as another system approaches. Rainfall will be more widespread in the U.P., with only a few scattered showers in the Lower Peninsula initially.

Most of the rain on Saturday is going to be in the morning, with another Clipper system entering the region. As of right now, widespread, but scattered, showers are going to move through the western and central U.P. and Lower Michigan Saturday morning and early afternoon, but dissipate by evening. Rain will likely be steadier in southern Lower Michigan on Saturday.

Temperatures are also going to drop behind these rainmakers. While things have been mild today, and will still be on the warmer side tomorrow, by Saturday high temperatures are going to drop off across the state. Some areas of the U.P. are only going to get into the mid 40s for highs, with temperatures in the Lower Peninsula getting into the upper 40s to low 50s on Saturday.
