Alabama Roots: Josh Jacobs produces 43rd 1,000-yard season

Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs passed 1,000 rushing yards for the 2022 NFL season on his final carry of the first half against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

On a fourth-and-2 snap at the Seattle 43-yard line, the former Alabama standout ran for 8 yards with 36 seconds left in the second quarter, setting up a field goal by Daniel Carlson that gave the Raiders a 24-20 halftime lead.

The 8-yard run gave Jacobs 72 yards on 15 rushing attempts in the game and boosted his season total to 1,002 yards on 198 carries. Jacobs’ first-half output included a 30-yard touchdown run for his eighth score of 2022.

The 1,000-yard campaign is the third of Jacobs’ NFL career. He ran for 1,150 yards and seven touchdowns on 242 carries as a rookie in 2019 and 1,065 yards and 12 touchdowns on 273 carries in 2020.

Jacobs joined another Alabama alumnus, Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry, and Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb as 1,000-yard rushers this season. Chubb also reached the milestone on Sunday with 116 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries in the Browns’ 23-17 overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
