When one man goes down, another one has to step up. That has been the saying that has surrounded the Alabama football program since Nick Saban took over in 2007.
On Saturday, sophomore linebacker Jihaad Campbell was named the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week. The recognition comes as Campbell replaced senior linebacker Trezmen Marshall. Marshall suffered a rib injury against Arkansas in Week 7.
Campbell recorded 10 tackles and one tackle for loss. The New Jersey native recovered the fumble and returned it for 24 yards for a touchdown. That was one of the turning points in the game. It helped the Crimson Tide take a 34-20 lead which would ultimately prove to be the final score.
His performance is one of the strongest of his career. Campbell will continue to be a key piece on Alabama’s defense moving forward.
