You could argue Devonta Smith is among the fastest players ever to put on an Alabama uniform after what we saw him do in the national championship game win over Ohio State.
But the fastest ever? That might be Forrest Gump, known for running kicks back seemingly with ease and becoming an All-American in the 1960s.
OK, fine. I know he’s fictional. But someone in Tuscaloosa just felt like running after the Crimson Tide beat Ohio State to win yet another national championship … and that person looked exactly like the Tom Hanks character as Alabama fans celebrated in the streets (during, as my colleague Andy Nesbitt correctly noted, a deadly pandemic).
Here’s video of “Gump” complete with the giant beard, red shorts and hat:

It appears this is a thing:
I also spotted him ahead of the Texas A&M game earlier in the season. pic.twitter.com/kR3MXQnafl

I just couldn’t believe somebody would do all that running for no particular reason.
