Akron man charged with murder in relation to September shooting on Copley Road

An Akron man has been charged with murder in relation to the shooting death of a 62-year-old man in September, according to Akron Municipal Court records.
Derrick Eldon Wilkes, 62, of Akron, was shot inside an apartment in the 800 block of Copley Road in West Akron on Sept. 25. An autopsy showed the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso.
Teion Thompson, 21, of Akron was charged with murder in relation to the case. He was arraigned Tuesday morning and is currently in the Summit County Jail.
Wilkes and Thompson lived in the same neighborhood in West Akron.
Wilkes’ 63rd birthday would have been Jan. 26.
