AJAX sit one point off BOTTOM of the league having been beaten 4-3 in a game that was twice suspended.

The Dutch giants – who have never been relegated from the Eredivisie – sit 17th after seven games.

And their form worsened having lost in the seven-goal thriller at Utrecht – despite their fans’ best efforts to have the game suspended.

They chucked missiles on to the pitch when a opposition player was through on goal with the score at 3-3 in the dying moments.

The referee immediately halted the game but Oscar Fraulo did seal a late winner for Utrecht in stoppage time when the game restarted.

Fuming Ajax supporters again interfered with play with seconds remaining and the match was paused for a second time due to disruption.

It was only in September that Ajax and Feyenoord’s game at the Johan Cruyff Arena was abandoned after fans threw flares onto the pitch.

With Ajax 3-0 down after 55 minutes, some home supporters began throwing flares onto the pitch in a bid to get the match abandoned.

It was temporarily paused before half-time due to ‘fireworks’ on the pitch.

The same thing happened after the break, but officials eventually deemed it too unsafe for the match to continue.

After play was stopped, a short social media statement from the Eredivisie read: “The Classic is permanently stopped after repeated fireworks on the field.”

The game was eventually finished three days later behind closed doors, with Feyenoord rubbing salt in the wounds by scoring again to win 4-0.

Santiago Gimenez made history by completing his hat-trick – the first by a Feyenoord star away to Ajax – 72 hours after netting his opening two goals.

Ajax have just one win all season and for the first time in the club’s history sit lower than 16th.
