Introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s padawan in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka’s popularity among new and old fans ensured her place in the franchise’s greater canon. She went on to feature as a recurring character in Star Wars Rebels, often working together with the crew of The Ghost, before eventually crossing paths with Din Djarin in The Mandalorian. Audiences last saw Ahsoka at Luke Skywalker’s side in The Book of Boba Fett where she helped train the young Grogu.

While Lucasfilm has previously confirmed several returning characters, the one many fans are most excited to see back on the screen is Darth Vader. The sinister Sith is confirmed to appear in the show but the timeline has left some puzzled as to how he could appear. Set after the events of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Vader is canonically dead having sacrificed himself to kill Darth Sidious aka The Emperor. Many believe the reconstructed Anakin Skywalker will appear through flashbacks or vision sequences but this has yet to be confirmed. Hayden Christensen is once again stepping into the role having previously played Vader in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

As for Thrawn, rumors continue to swirl as to who is playing the hyper-intelligent Imperial. Voiced by Lars Mikkelsen in Star Wars Rebels, several reports claim he will continue to play the villain in live-action. For his part, Mikkelsen has denied any and all involvement with the Ahsoka show. When asked if Lucasfilm had contacted him about the role, he noted that he had yet to recieve any such offer but would be open to reprising the part.

Ahsoka does not yet have a release date but Dawson has said the show is aiming for a late 2023 premiere.
