Agbonlahor ‘questions’ Erling Haaland as Kevin De Bruyne claim made at Man City

Erling Haaland has been too reliant on service from his Man City teammates like Kevin De Bruyne, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed Haaland will not be seen alongside the likes of Thierry Henry and Sergio Aguero as one of the Premier League greats if he does not score solo goals.

The 22-year-old failed to score for just the second time in the Premier League this season as Man City lost 1-0 to Liverpool last weekend (16 October).

He was involved in the build-up to City’s disallowed goal at Anfield as it was ruled out after he fouled Fabinho.

“I want to question Haaland in the game,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He was very poor for me. Yes, he had a few chances but I want to see Haaland come and receive the ball and take some players on, I’ve not really seen it.

“When you are not getting the chances in the game I don’t think he was involved enough in the game, for me. He was waiting for service from De Bruyne and other players. I wanted Haaland to get the ball off one of his players, turn and take players on.

“That’s why, as great as he’s done, you can’t ever compare him to Thierry Henry, players like that, Aguero. These players will come and receive the ball, turn, take players on and score a solo goal.

“I’ve not seen that from Haaland yet. I’ve seen him score great goals from great passes but I’ve not seen him score a solo goal yet.

“He can do it. I saw him at Dortmund do it but he’s not done it yet at City.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed club chiefs are worried Haaland could quit Man City amid a £272million-plus reveal.
