After playoff hopes crushed, Lions fans still proud as Detroit beats Green Bay Packers
Lions #Lions
It was a bittersweet Sunday for Detroit Lions fans, but at least it ended on the sweeter side of things.
First, the Seattle Seahawks eliminated the Lions from the playoff contention with a 19-16 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams. However, the Lions went on to beat division rival Green Bay, 20-16, on national television to eliminate Aaron Rodgers and the Packers from playoff contention as well.
In the win, Jamaal Williams set the Lions record for rushing touchdowns in a single season with 17. With two touchdowns in the game, he surpassed the 16 touchdowns scored by Barry Sanders in the 1991-92 season. However, Williams did have one extra game to tie and eclipse Sanders due to NFL teams playing 17 games instead of 16 since the start of the 2021-22 season.
Also, Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown added a mind-boggling catch on the Lions’ game-deciding drive. The Lions even iced it by going for it on fourth down — something the Lions are known for under coach Dan Campbell — by completing a short pass to DJ Chark Jr. Detroit finished 9-8, its first winning season since 2017-18.
In the the win, the Lions had dealt with plenty of adversity, including a long, flea-flicker touchdown called back on a holding call and an interception called back on an illegal hands to the face penalty.
Los Angeles had a chance to make the day truly special for the Lions, holding a 16-13 lead in the fourth quarter. However, highly-criticized penalty calls and turnovers ended up dooming the Rams.
Questionable penalty calls and turnovers is an all-too familiar way Lions fans have endured losses over the years. On Sunday, Lions fans had to endure it in a game their team wasn’t even participating in.
Here is how Lions fans have reacted to a rollercoaster day to end the season.

@Ercoman: This is my favorite Lions season ever. Bummed we’re not in the postseason but knocking Aaron Rodgers and the Packers out of the playoffs feels so incredibly good.

REACTING TO SEATTLE’S WIN
@dvtyler: The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if all of the Seattle no calls in their game against LA was the @NFL‘s way of screwing the Lions over once again? #OnePride @nflcommish @espn @freep @971theticketxyt @terryfosterdet @gregghenson
____
@murraypaul091: The Detroit Lions got what they deserved–to be ousted from playoff contention by the Seattle Seahawks who won–in overtime!–to move ahead of the Lions, whom they beat in Week 4. The 1-6 Lions were & are the “real” Lions, you know, the team that is always trying avoid 0-17.
____
@GqGreatness: Seattle knocked us out of our chances of getting into the playoffs today but I still want my boys to go out there and whoop on the packers!!! Let’s Go Lions!! #onepride
____
@fraiby: If we would have beaten Seattle at home……none of this would have mattered
____
@bradburn59: BS roughing kicker call that extended Seattle drive and missed call on metcalf after the ramsey personal foul. Lions always have to fight the refs.
