After leaving Tuesday’s game with an illness, Jose Altuve is out of Wednesday’s lineup against the Brewers.

MILWAUKEE — A day after he was pulled during the Astros’ loss to the Brewers on Tuesday night, second baseman Jose Altuve was not in the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale at American Family Field.

Altuve was lifted while playing defense during the sixth inning Tuesday. Manager Dusty Baker said Altuve had indicated he was sick, so the decision was made to remove him for precautionary reasons.

“He’s better,” manager Dusty Baker said before the game. “He was sick last night, so we’ve just got to take care of him. He’s got today and (Thursday) to get well.”

Baker said the team didn’t know what befell Altuve. Mauricio Dubón started in Altuve’s place at second Wednesday.

Altuve will get another full day to recuperate as the Astros have Thursday off before beginning a three-game series Friday at Oakland.

Altuve sat out Monday’s series opener against the Brewers, but Baker said that was a planned day off after Altuve played all three games of last weekend’s home series against the A’s in his return to action after being sidelined with a fractured right thumb since March.
