AFL names the 2023 All-Australian team

A TOTAL of 12 debutants made their mark as stars of the game when the 2023 AFL All Australian Team was unveiled during the AFL Awards presentation tonight.

Both Collingwood and Port Adelaide supplied three members of the side, the equal-most by any individual club, while 15 of the 18 clubs supplied at least one member of the side.

Making history is Toby Greene, who is the first player to Captain the All Australian team from the GWS GIANTS since the club’s inception. Adelaide Crows’ key forward Taylor Walker was named at centre half-forward and he becomes the oldest All Australian debutante in the AFL era since 1990.

Western Bulldogs’ captain Marcus Bontempelli, who was named Vice-Captain, and Geelong Cats’ defender Tom Stewart were both awarded their fifth blazer, the most for current members of the team. Collingwood pair Nick and Josh Daicos were both named in the midfield and become the first brothers to be selected together in an All Australian team since the Cornes brothers (Chad and Kane) in 2007.

Five players retained their places from the 22 players named in the 2022 AFL All Australian team – Tom Stewart, Charlie Curnow, Jack Sinclair, Connor Rozee and Christian Petracca.

The 2023 All Australian selection panel is Gillon McLachlan (chairperson), Eddie Betts, Jude Bolton, Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes, Andrew Dillon, Glen Jakovich, Laura Kane, Cameron Ling and Matthew Pavlich.
