CM Punk defeated Jon Moxley to retain the AEW World Championship at AEW All Out 2022. Punk’s win gave way to the return of MJF.

AEW All Out 2022 advertised a loaded—if not bloated—pay-per-view lineup from the NOW Arena in Chicago, Ill. CM Punk will challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship less than two weeks after being squashed by Moxley for that same title on AEW Dynamite.

The next plot twist in the Elite saga pays off as Hangman Adam Page and The Dark Order challenge The Elite. Given Hangman Page’s ties to The Elite, there are a number of ways AEW can go with this match, and many of them involve at least the tease of an Elite reunion.

The build to AEW All Out has also been plagued with backstage drama, not the least of which was an apparent shoot promo from CM Punk to Hangman Adam Page. Days later, top stars Eddie Kingston and Sammy Guevara were involved in a backstage altercation. As tensions rose backstage, AEW President Tony Khan held a backstage talent meeting to rally the troops and get his locker room back on the same page. Jon Moxley vs. CM Punk is arguably the biggest pay-per-view match AEW can promote. In front of a sold-out crowd in Chicago, and after two banger WWE shows already, AEW All Out is expected to clear a high bar for wrestling this weekend.

This week’s broadcast of AEW Dynamite remained steady with 1.020 million viewers.

AEW All Out 2022 Winners and Match Card The Joker Wins Casino Battle Royale

Penta El Zero M and Andrade El Idolo carried this match until its highly dramatic finish. Dante Martin was awesome too.

Stokely Hathaway stole the winning AEW chip and gifted it to “The Joker,” who displayed a lot of mannerisms similar to MJF and wore a devil’s mask. The Joker walked out to “Sympathy of the Devil,” and as I’ve speculated, MJF could be the leader behind Stokely’s group.

Justin Roberts powered through Kenny Omega’s best ring announcement yet, including mention of Omega being Kevin Nash’s new favorite wrestler.

Adam Page stopped Dark Order from laying the boots to They Young Bucks as part of a long-term tease to an Elite reunion.

Fans came unglued for the tease of Adam Page vs. Kenny Omega. Crowd support was with Hangman Adam Page. They later dragged the lifeless bodies of Alex Reynolds and Matt Jackson to their corners and tagged themselves back in, to an even greater ovation.

Ever the babyface, Hangman Adam Page later sacrificed himself for Alex Reynolds.

This match did a great job of recreating pivotal moments of this long-term story.

Jade Cargill def. Athena

Jade Cargill appropriately chose She-Hulk as her cosplay target.

Athena hit the Oh Face finisher early in the match and the baddies were late to pulling her out of the Ring.

Jade Cargill and Athena squeezed a very good match into a small window of time. The term “live rounds” was used several times on commentary.

Wardlow and FTR def. Jay Lethal and MCMG

Dax Harwood’s eight-year-old daughter made an appearance before this match.

There were several references to FTR vs. MCMG being a dream match for hardcore wrestling fans.

Dax Harwood took exception to the wrestling media dismissing this match, but that’s exactly how the crowd treated most of it.

Following this match, Samoa Joe returned to a huge reaction.

Powerhouse Hobbs def. Ricky Starks

Ricky Starks walked out with brand new gear (long tights) and I thought he had to be winning.

I was surprised Starks lost, and even more surprised by how little time this match received.

Swerve in Our Glory def. The Acclaimed

As I predicted in the Pro Wrestling Bit above, Max Caster did indeed drop a reference to Trump’s FBI Raid.

Billy Gunn stole the show early, with fans cha ting “oh scissor me Daddy” to the tune of “Seven Nation Army.”

Fans continued the Acclaimed-inspired chants by chanting “you can’t scissor!” and “we want scissors!”

Fans were very much behind the home grown Acclaimed.

The crowd was solidly behind The Acclaimed throughout, and there were multiple miscues by Swerve in Our Glory, but ultimately the wrong men won. Fans were not happy at all.

Toni Storm def. Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter and Hikaru Shida

Surprisingly, Jamie Hayter was the most over woman in this match.

Hikaru Shida was taken out of this match for medical reasons, only to return with two kendo sticks.

Toni Storm won in another deflating finish where the overwhelming crowd favorite lost. AEW feels out of step with its fanbase tonight.

Christian Cage def. Jungle Boy

Luchasaurus turned heel on Jungle Boy before the bell even rang, destroying Jungle Boy in a short match. This match fit the storyline as Christian once again got out of working with help from Luchasaurus. Christian Cage match.

This felt a lot like an Edge Money in the Bank cash-in.

Chris Jericho def. Bryan Danielson

Chris Jericho came out to his vintage Lionheart music, much to the chagrin of this crowd.

Bryan Danielson received a live entrance by Elliot Taylor.

Jericho delivered a very stiff forearm that seemed to rock Bryan Danielson, and Taz covered by calling Jericho “heavy handed.”

The announce team stopped short of calling it the Walls of Jericho, choosing to simply call it The Walls.

Jericho won this match by cheating to win, which really disappointed Daniel Garcia backstage.

Sting, Darby Allin and Miro def. House of Black

The crowd definitely hit a wall by this point of the show and only really reacted to Sting tagging in.

The tease of Sting vs. Malakai Black continues to succeed.

The finish came when Sting surprisingly used black mist on Malakai Black.

CM Punk def. Jon Moxley; MJF Returns

Fans were 100% behind CM Punk in this match, which doesn’t bode well for him given how this weekend has gone for hometown favorites.

Early in the match the CM Punk chants drowned out the “let’s go Moxley” chants.

Punk vs. Moxley started as a complete reverse of their squash match from two weeks ago, with Punk pouncing Moxley and hitting an early GTS.

Even as CM Punk bled, strategically over his white tights, the small pocket of Moxley chants endured.

CM Punk won with a third GTS, which was almost the most dramatic of the match.
