NBA commissioner Adam Silver informed fans that Ja Morant’s punishment for the video of him brandishing what appeared to be a gun would be handed out after the NBA Finals.
With the Nuggets clinching the title earlier this week, the basketball world’s focus has shifted back to Morant and what many feel will be a substantial suspension for the young star.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski says that it’s likely Silver and the league will make their decision soon – and he has some idea of how long Morant’s suspension will be.
On an episode of ESPN’s Get Up, Wojnarowski says that Morant’s suspension could be announced as soon as Friday.
“There’s an expectation that today [Friday] could be the day,” Wojnarowksi said.
Around the league, Wojnarowski says the expectation is that Morant will be suspended for more than 18 games. That would account for nearly one-fifth of the NBA’s 82-game regular season – certainly a substantial punishment.
Silver says that while the league doesn’t intend to “send a message” or be deliberately unfair to Morant in his punishment, prior incidents and “the seriousness of course of the conduct” will factor into the decision.
We know that Morant will be suspended and we have an idea that it will be a substantial suspension.
The only thing left is for it to be officially announced by the NBA.
