India thought they had found the winning formula against Australia in Mohali on Tuesday night.
They took star leg spinner Adam Zampa for 0-36 from four, test skipper Pat Cummins for 0-47 and even took 39 off the metronomic Josh Hazlewood despite his two wickets to amass their largest ever T20 total of 6-208 against the Aussies.
And to add to their luck, Australia trialled a shock, untried opening combination of veteran captain Aaron Finch and young West Australian all-rounder Cameron Green.
But it took Green all of four balls to announce himself to the adoring and raucous Indian cricket fans.
After Finch started the innings with a glorious first-ball drive for six, Green hammered his first four deliveries to the boundary, leaving Indian quick Umesh Yadav wishing he had waited to make his T20 comeback.
Green went on to Man of the Match honours, blasting 61 off 30 deliveries, as Australia chased down the total with four wickets in the bank.
The innings left Indian fans begging to see the 23-year-old have a crack at the IPL next year and former Australian and West Australian wicket-keeping megastar Adam Gilchrist gushing.
“Look out this summer,” he said on SEN.
“The development and maturing of Cam Green before our eyes is just so exciting.
“You’ve almost got to suppress your excitement a little bit because you don’t want to overshoot it and put pressure on him.”

Green has scored two half-centuries in his last three outings, including an ODI-winning 89 not out against New Zealand in Cairns.
“The run scoring and the achievements that he’s ticking off in the white ball format is only going to help his confidence and his flow of runs in test cricket,” Gilchrist said.
“In one slight hand break in what’s been a fantastic launch into test cricket has been Cam’s fluency of run scoring. He can be held up occasionally, but I think this is just going to start to teach him about the tempo of an innings.
“I wouldn’t expect anyone’s talking about sliding him up and up the order in test cricket, but what (facing the new ball in short-form cricket) does for your capabilities batting in mid to lower order situations against second new balls in test cricket or batting against high-class bowling when there’s a collapse (is confidence building).”
While Green is not in the squad for Australia’s home T20 World Cup title defence, Gilchrist warned players with niggles to watch out.
He also said he liked what he saw from former Perth Scorcher Tim David on his Aussie debut.

“He is like the good old axeman going out there and just swinging, and chopping threw the line of the ball,” Gilchrist said.
“It’s going to be a challenging balancing up.”
The second T20 against India is in Nagpur on Friday.
