Actor Kevin Sorbo says indie movies offer ‘hope, redemption, faith’ – alternative to Hollywood

“Hercules” actor Kevin Sorbo says that independent movies are becoming more popular with movie audiences, offering a message of  “love and hope,” compared to those made by and for Hollywood.

“I’m doing movies that have love and hope, redemption, faith, and laughter-things that Hollywood won’t do,” Sorbo said on the Monday edition of the “Just the News, Not Noise” TV show. “I’m gonna keep doing what I do to fight the culture because they control the culture. They control what’s going on in DC and I want to try to do things that bring back a more positive attitude here in America.”

Sorbo also said the independent avenue for movies has been on the rise.

“The independent world out there is getting bigger and bigger all the time,” he said. “Production value on a $3 million movie is as good as production value on any movie out there. The only difference is we don’t have big budgets for visual effects. But there’s so many people that want to work.”

According to Sorbo, the ratings for award shows such as the Emmys, the Oscars, and the Golden Globes go down every year.

“When I used to go to the Emmys, it was a pretty cool event to be part of back when I shot “Hercules” from ’93 to 2000, and even “Andromeda” from 2000 2005.”

Sorbo said that he has been keeping himself busy with making movies as well as directing them.

“Thank God for independent movies,” he said “I’ve been staying very busy. I’ve shot four movies already this year.”

Sorbo said that there are conservatives in Hollywood, but a lot of them keep their views to themselves for fear of having their reputation smeared, echoing the views of other conservative-leaning actors.

“They’re all afraid to come out of that conservative closet because we’re the ones getting bashed and attacked,” Sorbo said. “I still had a career. Am I doing big budget TV shows or movies anymore? Nope. But that’s fine. I’m doing the movies that I want to do.”
