Accidental throwback? Jon Gruden weas an ‘Oakland Raiders’ hat but changes at halftime
Raiders #Raiders
Early in the Las Vegas Raiders’ game Thursday night, plenty of people noticed a bit of a snafu from Jon Gruden.
You had to look closely, but Gruden’s Raiders hat that he was wearing on the sideline was actually an “Oakland Raiders” hat. The Raiders moved from Oakland to Las Vegas this past year.
At least he had his mask on.
This leads to some questions. Did Gruden mean to wear the Oakland hat as a subtle shout-out to the Raiders’ former home? If not, how does it happen that the hat he wore for a game was one that had to be made more than a year ago? Did he have it sitting around his office all this time? Was it just to break a slump?
Someone must have gotten to Gruden at halftime. Fox pointed out that Gruden had changed from the Oakland Raiders hat to the same style but it said “Las Vegas Raiders.”
Intentional or not, it was a nice tip of the cap (bad pun) to the Oakland fans who still follow the Raiders. It’s one of the rare relocations in which many fans in the former city still love the team that left. At least a small part of the old Oakland Raiders was a part of Thursday night’s game.
