Aaron Ramsdale: How did Arsenal man rattle Richarlison & Spurs fans after game?

Aaron Ramsdale was kicked by a Tottenham fan after the north London derby on Sunday afternoon.

The English goalkeeper was superb as he helped his side to a 2-0 win at the home of their fierce rivals.

First half goals from Hugo Lloris (own-goal) and Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal all three points.

What did Aaron Ramsdale say after being kicked by Spurs fan?

There were unsavoury scenes after the match when Ramsdale was kicked by a Spurs fan after an altercation with Richarlison.

Ramsdale spoke to the media about the incident after the game.

“The [Spurs] fans were giving me some [stick] throughout the second half. I gave some back,” Ramsdale said.

“The few people I did do it to were well greeted and sportsmanship like. Then a fan jumped over and gave me a little punch in the back.

“That’s what happened and it’s a shame because it’s just a game of football at the end of the day.”

He added: “Both sets of players tried to bring me away. But thankfully nothing actually happened too drastic. It’s a sour taste but I’m sure we’ll enjoy it when we’re back in the dressing room.”

It was unclear what why Richarlison and Spurs fans were upset with Ramsdale after the match.

But footage has now emerged which shows Ramsdale’s actions before being kicked.

Immediately after the final whistle, Ramsdale turned to the Spurs fans behind his goal, punched the air in delight and kissed the Arsenal badge on his shirt.

That annoyed Richarlison, who got in Ramsdale’s face and shoved him.

Ramsdale did not seem bothered by Richarlison as he walked to collect his water bottle from behind the goal. It was then that a Spurs fan kicked Ramsdale. Watch the footage below…

The PFA have released a statement reacting to the incident.

Their statement read, per Henry Winter of The Times: “Violence towards players is completely unacceptable. These incidents happening far too often. Players have a right to be safe in their place of work. When a player is attacked, we expect the laws in place to protect players to be properly enforced.

“As the players’ union, we treat this as a priority issue. We will continue working with the authorities to demand that players and staff are better protected in their place of work.”
