Aaron Judge’s No. 62 ignites steroid trash talk vs Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire
Barry Bonds #BarryBonds
Social media is exploding with reactions to Aaron Judge’s 62nd home run in a single season, an American League record. But there is another part of all outlets that is hell bent on staying controversial as they remember the infamous MLB steroid era. Even though many former and active player have repeatedly given Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire their props for what they accomplished in their prime.
There is still a small part of baseball fans who keep reminding San Francisco Giants fans that Barry Bonds is a cheater. They also remind Saint Louis Cardinals that Mark McGwire confessed to his crime and none of their records should count. If we also entertain this idea, Aaron Judge is the all-time MLB single-season home run record holder.
Moving all this chatter aside, Aaron Judge can at least say he holds the American League record but he sure would’ve loved to be the one holding the overall MLB record. Roger Maris Jr. himself previously said that Judge would be the home run king if he got to 62.
His tweet after the fact, added more salt to the wound: “Congratulations to Aaron Judge and his family on Aaron’s historic home run number 62! It has definitely been a baseball season to remember. You are all class and someone who should be revered. For the MAJORITY of the fans, we can now celebrate a new CLEAN HOME RUN KING!!”
But the fans’ reactions are the ones that get a little ruthless against Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire. From using the classic injection emoji to calling Judge the clean home run king as Roger Maris Jr. did. Even if the numbers held by Bonds, McGwire and Sammy Sosa don’t hold up due to steroid usage, they still made the world go wild over their achievements. Nobody can take that away from what they made baseball fans feels during that time.
