A Tisch scion takes a four-bedroom apartment on Central Park West

Henry Tisch, a son of billionaire hotel magnate Jonathan Tisch, appears to have a new home on the Upper West Side.

A trust created in Henry’s name and administered by his father purchased a 3,800-square-foot apartment at the Majestic, an elite co-op at 115 Central Park West, according to tax records that appeared in the City Register on Tuesday.

The unit, No. 14C, which has four bedrooms, three and a half baths and a primary suite with a solarium that has Central Park views, cost nearly $17.3 million, records show.

The seller, Michael Clifford, an investor in for-profit online colleges, first listed the co-op in 2020, just before the pandemic, for $19.5 million, though Clifford appears to have delisted it for some time while Covid-19 raged. The co-op sold at a 12% loss.

Since graduating from Yale in 2016, Tisch has held different jobs in the theater industry, according to a profile on LinkedIn. He currently describes himself as a “co-producer” at the Museum of Broadway, which is set to open in November at 145 W. 45th St. (In 2019 a shell company, 550 Stewart Acquisition, paid $92 million for the 31-story building.)

His family’s company, the powerful Loews Corp., has diversified holdings in insurance, energy and packaging. The publicly traded company also owns the Lowes Regency, a hotel at Park Avenue and East 61st Street. Regulars who gathered there to discuss New York’s fate in the financially troubled 1970s coined the term “power breakfast” to describe their meet-ups. Philanthropically-inclined, the Tisches have donated heavily to New York University, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Central Park Zoo.

Jonathan Tisch serves as a president of Loews, as do two of his cousins, Andrew and James. Other members of the sprawling family employed by the firm, according to the firm’s site, include Alex Tisch, Andrew’s son, and Ben Tisch, one of James’ sons, both of whom joined Lowes after stints elsewhere.

Whether Henry will also someday come onboard, giving Jonathan’s family an extended stake, is unclear. An effort to reach him through the Museum of Broadway was unsuccessful. And a Loews spokeswoman did not respond to a request to interview Jonathan. Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Sotheby’s International Realty, which listed No. 14C, had no comment.

The Majestic, a twin-towered Art Deco edifice at West 72nd Street, is a premier apartment building on one of the city’s prized residential streets. Former and present shareholders have included Richard Rubin, the former U. S. Treasury secretary; developer William Lie Zeckendorf; and Beth Sackler, an heiress to the Sackler pharmaceutical fortune. Jonathan Tisch, though, resides on the Upper East Side.
