A sunny Friday and tracking IAN

Hurricane Ian is about 100 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina. It is moving north at about 9mph with 85mph winds. It is expected to continue on that course with an increase in forward speed this morning. A turn toward the north-northwest is expected tonight. The center of Ian is expected to reach the coast of South Carolina this afternoon. It will move further inland across eastern South Carolina and central North Carolina tonight and Saturday. Little change in strength is expected before reaching the coast. Rapid weakening however, is expected after landfall and Ian is expected to become an extratropical low over North Carolina tonight or on Saturday. It should dissipate by Saturday night.Besides Ian, a tropical wave is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the far eastern tropical Atlantic. Environmental conditions are expected to become conducive for gradual development of this system and a tropical depression could form early next week as the system moves westward over the eastern tropical Atlantic. It has a medium chance of development. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for all of the tidal lakes, sounds and Gulf waters. It was issued due to northerly winds of 15 to 25 knots and gusts up to 30 knots with seas of 5 to 7 feet along the coast and into the Gulf of Mexico. The Advisory is in effect until 4pm this afternoon.Friday: Expect a sunny, mild and breezy day with no rain and afternoon temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s.
