A Pa. native could be unlikely hero for Chiefs if Patrick Mahomes can’t go in second half against Eagles
Chiefs #Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs just went to halftime trailing the Philadelphia Eagles 24-14 so there’s no question that they will need Patrick Mahomes in the second half.
One problem.
The NFL MVP suffered a high-ankle injury early in the playoffs against Jacksonville, and he apparently re-aggravated that with just over 1:30 to go in the first half of Super Bowl LVII.
Luckily for the Chiefs, Mahomes will have a long halftime to try to figure things out, but a high-ankle injury is one that sometimes can only be “figured out” with rest. And, typically, that rest isn’t measured in minutes or hours. Typically, it can be weeks, maye even months.
“That ankle been done since the jags played em,” former Jaguars defensive end Ryan Davis tweeted. “High ankle sprains, real bad ones need bout 6-8 weeks to heal. He’s been toughing it out for real!”
This is terrible news for the Chiefs. Great news for Eagles fans just hoping to pull out the “W” because there is a real chance that Mahomes can’t go at some point in the second half.
That said, if he can’t play, the Chiefs replacement would be Pennsylvania native, veteran Chad Henne.
Henne was born in West Reading and played for the Wilson Bulldogs before going on to become a Michigan Wolverine. The 37-year-old was a second-round pick of Miami all the way back in 2008.
With Mahomes shining, Henne hasn’t played much the past couple seasons, but when he has, he has proven capable. For instance, when Mahomes went out against Jacksonville for a bit, Henne filled in and went 5-for-7 for 23 yards and a touchdown.
And now there’s a chance that he could play the unlikely hero for the Chiefs and a real spoiler for many of the folks back here in Pa.
