Three words that describe 6th year grad transfer and all-around renaissance man, Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman.

But it could be the final trait that will be etched in our memories.

After leading one of the most exciting Notre Dame comebacks in a decade against Duke, Hartman was nowhere to be seen celebrating with his teammates.

Instead, he hurried over to the Blue Devil sideline to check on injured quarterback Riley Leonard, greeting him when he came out of the medical tent.

“I don’t know what he’s feeling but I’ve been there,” Hartman said. “It’s a dark place you can go to and [he] played a helluva game. He’s a helluva player, he just has to keep going.”

The internet immediately noticed, praising Hartman not just for the comeback victory but for this ultimate gesture of sportsmanship.

It is still to be determined whether Hartman can will this Notre Dame team to a national championship, but even if he can’t, the leadership, the grit and the class will forever be the hallmark of Sam Hartman.
