MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — Hymns, love, and grace all in honor of Macon’s beloved Mama Louise.
Saturday the Macedonia Baptist Church and the family grieved this mournful loss. Mama Louise was the owner of H and H restaurant which has been a fixture of the Macon community since 1959. She also is known by some as the Mother of Southern Rock as she graciously took in the Allman Brothers when they were hungry musicians before their illustrious career.
Camellia Simmons says “Mama Louise was mama.”
Her passing on Tuesday November 8th at the age of 93 left as a celebration of life for many.
“We celebrate her life. We appreciate her. We loved her. And we will continue hopefully to try to follow the example that she left,” said Simmons.
And one that Macon-Bibb wants to remember forever as commissioners of the county declared November 19th, 2022 Mama Louise Hudson day.
Several dozens gathered for the service to remember her remarkable life and all the lives she’s touched.
Simmons reminisced about how she ate at H and H restaurant every morning to fulfil her craving for cheese toast while pregnant with her last child. One morning, she says, that she was struggling to get to the restaurant and missed the window for serving breakfast. Filled with emotion, she began to cry missing her favorite breakfast. She said Mama Louise saw her, asked what’s wrong, and immediately told the kitchen to fix Simmons her cheese toast.
Simmons described Mama Louise in one word: Generous.
