Kenny Golladay’s visit with the Giants continued over the course of three days, but in the end the Giants got their man, signing the talented wide receiver to a four-year, $72 million deal.
And despite other teams being in the mix, it sounds like Golladay, who spoke to reporters on Saturday evening, always had his mind set on becoming a part of Big Blue.
“Really just the pieces on offense,” Golladay responded when asked about what drew him to New York. “Those guys actually kind of reached out to me, and I like the vision that coach Joe Judge has and Jason Garrett, as far as the offense, and I was all the way in.
“That had me right there. Just walking around the building, everybody greeting me with them pretty much telling me that they want me here, and I expressed the same thing, so it was kind of like a no-brainer, but I’m glad it worked out.”
Golladay explained that quarterback Daniel Jones was among his now-teammates that reached out during the process. The 27-year-old said on Saturday that he wants to grow with Jones in the offense, and he believes that he and his new quarterback can help each other along the way.
“He just said how good of a player he thought I was, and I pretty much said the same thing about him,” Golladay said. “He also just said ‘We’re trying to do something great here,’ and that’s what I’m all about.
“He’s still kind of fresh in the league a little bit, and I kind of want to grow with him. I’m still growing as a player. I feel like me and him can do some good things. We haven’t gotten on the practice field yet, but me and him both are very excited.”
The 6-foot-4 receiver gives Jones a physical outside presence that he hasn’t had to this point in his young career. With 3,068 career receiving yards, 21 touchdowns, and a 16.8 yards per reception average, Golladay should provide an instant boost to a Giants offense that ranked near the bottom of the league in 2020.
“This team’s just going get a competitor, a guy that’s going to come in, work, going to try to push other guys, and have fun with it. I want to have fun while I’m doing this. That’s what I’m doing it for. Just a playmaker.”
