India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma on Saturday surpassed Martin Guptill to become the second-highest run-scorer in the T20 Internationals during the final match of the 5-match T20I series against England at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Rohit, playing his 111th T20I, surpassed Guptill with a big six, his third of the match. Incidentally, Rohit opened with captain Virat Kohli for the first time in T20I cricket on Saturday as India dropped out-of-form KL Rahul. Rohit was at his imperious best as he took the attack to the likes of Mark Wood and Jofra Archer in the powerplay wherein India managed 60 for 0.

Before the start of the match, Rohit needed only 40 runs to surpass Guptill’s tally of runs in the shortest format of the game. Rohit Sharma, who was rested from the first two games, had a rather ordinary return as he managed to score only 15 runs from 17 balls in the third T20I against England on Tuesday. He got out for 12 in the 4th T20I, which India managed to win and level the series.

Overall, Virat Kohli leads the list of most run-getters with more than 3000 runs in 90 matches. Notably, India’s captain became the first cricketer to score 3000 T20I runs on Sunday.

Rohit’s ability to score runs quickly took many bowling line-ups by storm, while his knack of staying at the crease for long makes him even more lethal. Rohit is a serial record-breaker in limited-overs cricket. He is the only man to score three double hundreds in one-day internationals and holds the record for the highest individual score in the format. Back in 2014, Rohit had left the cricket world stunned with his 264 against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens.

Rohit is also less than 10 sixes away from clinching the top spot in the list of most sixes by a batsman in the T20I format. While Guptill is at the No.1 spot with 139 sixes, Rohit is second, followed by Eoin Morgan (113) and Colin Munro (107).
