Slavia Prague goalkeeper Ondrej Kolar was left with a huge gash on his forehead after a horror challenge from Rangers star Kemar Roofe.

Kolar took studs to the face from Roofe’s flying boot and was left with blood pouring from his face.

The goalkeeper was stretchered off but did return to the dugout later to watch his Slavia team-mates secure a 2-0 win on the night, which sent Rangers out.

Roofe had only come off the bench in the 55th minute, to replace Scott Arfield, but was sent off six minutes later after an ugly collision.

While it was an accidental challenge, with Roofe’s eyes clearly on the ball, it was reckless and he was right to be shown his marching orders.

Roofe’s team-mate Leon Balogun was also sent off 10 minutes later, for a second yellow card, as Steven Gerrard’s side tumbled out of the Europa League 3-1 on aggregate.

Goals from Peter Olayinka and Nicolae Stanciu secured the victory for the Czech side, who will join Manchester United and Arsenal in Friday’s quarter-final draw.

Villarreal, Ajax, Dinamo Zagreb – who knocked out Tottenham Hotspur, Roma and Granada also have their names in the hat.

Former Rangers player Charlie Adam told BBC Sportsound of Roofe’s challenge: ‘That is indefensible.

‘If Roofe goes with his head, he’s got more chance of the goalkeeper taking him out and winning a penalty.’

Another ex-Rangers ace Peter Lovenkrands added: ‘Roofe can easily kick that ball and bring his foot down.

‘To me, I think he can get his foot out of the way of the goalkeepers head. It’s a definite red card.’
