Steven Gerrard has given his full support and backing to Glen Kamara after he accused Slavia Prague defender Ondrej Kudela of making a racist remark. The incident sadly overshadowed the contest, as Rangers crashed out of Europe with a 2-0 (3-1 aggregate) defeat at Ibrox.

Late in the second half, Kudela clashed with his opponent and covered his mouth as he made a remark in his face.

The comment sparked immediate fury from Kamara and team-mate Bongani Zungu, who began to made accusations of racism to the referee.

According to pundit Alan Hutton, Kamara was heard shouting “racist, racist” while Zungu asked the fourth official if he’d heard what was said.

After the game, Rangers boss Gerrard was keen to get to the bottom of the incident as he confronted the opposition for an explanation.

He was later pictured at the centre of fiery scenes after the game with Slavia staff and rival boss Jindrich Trpisovsky.

The altercation saw Gerrard delay his post-match media duties but he did eventually emerge to give his version of events.

Gerrard’s message was clear as he sided with Kamara: “The disappointing thing for me is there are people trying to defend the opposition player – calling us liars. I stand by Glen Kamara”.
