Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy on Visit Plan, Decision Timeline

Gabriel #Gabriel

From the outset of Under Armour’s Miami-area prospect camp Sunday, most eyes were drawn to Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy for one reason or another.

The Lakeland (Fla.) rising-senior defensive line recruit turns heads on Friday nights but created tangible buzz without the pads on amid peers thanks to a national recruitment, willingness to compete and a 6’4″, 275-pound frame carrying almost no bad weight.

Then he flew through drills and won almost every rep he took during the competition portion of the camp (video above).

“I did pretty good, I lost my last rep because my mask fell in the middle of my face,” Brownlow-Dindy told SI All-American with a laugh. “I was blindfolded but was still moving my arms. COVID is not just affecting us as going somewhere (recruiting visits) but also the mask is affecting these drills, too.”

The junior flashed some of the reasons why two dozen programs have made him a priority in the class of 2022. That list includes national champion Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma and others. This race for one of the most coveted defensive line prospects in the country won’t soon end, either.

“I guess I’m going to commit at the Under Armour Game, so that will be in January,” he said. “I’ll try to put my top four or five out pretty soon.”

Brownlow-Dindy admits his list, publicly at 11 programs, is beginning to be trimmed down privately. A top group of programs could be released “soon” if he can make some campus visits in the coming months. Currently, the NCAA has a dead period in place through the month of May due to the pandemic.

No in-person recruiting of any kind, from prospect visits to coaching visits, are to take place during this time.

Potential trips to programs outside the Southeastern footprint are the priority before any tangible movement on his list is to be made.

“Definitely visits, it’s the only thing we can’t do right now,” he said. “We’re talking to each other and getting as good a relationship as we can through the phone, but it’s not as good as in person. So the next thing will be the visits if it opens up in June. They keep pushing it back, so we’ll see.

“I probably have like five I would like to see. USC, Clemson, Oklahoma, places that I haven’t been. I’ve been to some places in my top 11, USF, Florida, I’ve been to Alabama. I haven’t been to the schools far away.”

When Brownlow-Dindy suits up at the next level, his position versatility will be a key element for his future defensive coordinator to utilize. He worked primarily off the edge in 2020 despite a frame that suggests a move inside.

While there is confidence as a defensive tackle or edge type, there is a position preference at this time.

“They have their different ways they want to use me,” he said. “Some say they want me in the inside and working a little bit on the outside. Some say they want me outside and working some inside. I personally know that I do better outside, I’ve been working on that.

“I’m big, I weigh 275 so people think I’m slow but I run a 4.7 (40-yard dash) for a reason. I can get to the outside.”

Brownlow-Dindy will play in the 2022 Under Armour All-America Game, set to reveal his commitment during the broadcast in January.
