Lee rolled past Amarillo Caprock with a 19-0 run-rule victory in four innings to close out the 47th annual Tournament of Champions, Saturday at Ernie Johnson Field.

The Rebels (7-2) finished the TOC with a 4-1 record with their only loss being a 2-1 defeat to tournament champion Lubbock Coronado on Friday. The Mustangs are ranked No. 7 in Class 5A by txhighschoolbaseball.com.

Lee was up 1-0 through four innings, but Coronado took advantage of a throwing error to score two runs in the fifth.

Despite the loss, Rebels sophomore Jaxon Ramos threw well, as he allowed two runs (both unearned), three hits and three walks over five innings to go along with three strikeouts.

“Even though we were on the wrong end and we didn’t win the game, but it really was the best game for us to play and for us to improve,” Lee head coach Brian Roper said. “We saw a good pitcher. It was a good team.”

The Rebels’ heavy-hitting lineup scored in double-digit run totals in three of the TOC games, and most importantly ended the tournament with a 2-0 record in District 2-6A play.

In Saturday’s finale, Hayden Westenburg was 2-for-3 with a double, four RBI and two scored; Trevor Roper went 2-for-2 with a triple, a double, two RBI and a run scored; Chase Shores was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored; Raymond Vasquez went 2-for-3 with three RBI; and Drew Martin was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Lee heads to the Abilene Tournament on Thursday before resuming District 2-6A play with a March 16 home game against Wolfforth Frenship.

“We still have a lot of work to do,” Roper said. “I’m excited about this group and what they can do and accomplish this year, but we’ve got a lot of work to do.”
