Liverpool send Steven Gerrard congratulations as Rangers title triumph earns Anfield recognition

Anfield #Anfield

Rangers and Steven Gerrard have been congratulated by Liverpool after officially wrapping up the Premiership title.

A 3-0 win over St Mirren on Saturday put them on the brink, and when Celtic could only draw 0-0 with Dundee United a first triumph since 2011 was mathematically sealed.

Gerrard made over 700 appearances for Liverpool as a player, captaining them to Champions League glory in 2005.

The Anfield legend never managed to lift the Premier League title though, with his side falling agonisingly short in the 2013-14 campaign.

Liverpool finally ended their long wait for the title last season, and have offered their congratulations after their former captain followed suit with Rangers.

A tweet read: “Congratulations from all of us at LFC to Steven Gerrard and his team on winning the Scottish Premier League (sic) title.”

It’s no secret that Gerrard would love to take over his boyhood club as manager in the future.

And ending Celtic’s dominance will be a plus for his CV, even if taking over from Jurgen Klopp doesn’t seem to be an imminent prospect.
